Pedestal Sink Vs. Vanity for a small bathroom

Conventional wisdom usually leads designers to place a pedestal sink in a small space rather than a full vanity. I have utilized pedestal sinks and wall mounted sinks in our other small baths almost exclusively until this little gem showed up at IKEA recently. It is under 10″ deep with a faucet on the side

Here is a picture of the same water closet area with a traditional pedestal sink. See how much it protrudes into the space?

I have to admit this was a pretty ugly pedestal sink to begin with, but you have to work with what you are given!
